President Bola Tinubu signs the 2025 budget of ₦54.99trn, here are more you need to know

President Bola Tinubu has signed the 2025 appropriation bill into law. Tinubu first submitted ₦49.7 trillion to the National Assembly. It was later increased to ₦54.99 trillion and was passed the lawmakers on February 13.

The president did the signing during a brief celebration in his office today, in the presence or National Assembly leadership.

In 2024 budget the figures were ₦27.5 trillion, which is almost 100% increase when compared with ₦54.99 trillion.

Initial breakdown of 2025 budget

Here is the 2025 budget as of late December 2024, when it was first submitted.

  1. Defense and Security: N4.91 trillion, which is the largest share of the budget
  2. Infrastructure: N4.06 trillion
  3. Education: N3.5 trillion
  4. Health: N2.4 trillion

The budget prioritizes security in a nation where insurgency and banditry is hitting the North, while the South has remained under the yoke of kidnapping and armed robbery.
