Precious Uzondu probably didn’t know it would turn out like that. But EFCC, earlier today, dragged him to Federal High Court Ikoyi Lagos on two-count charges bordering on his refusing to accept naira as mean of payment.
The commission disclosed this on its verify X handle today.
“That you, Precious Chimaobi Uzondu, on the 10th of December 2024, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, refused to accept Naira (Nigeria’s legal tender) by accepting the sum of $5700 (Five Thousand Seven Hundred USD) as a means of payment for a purchase of a Carter diamond bracelet with serial number (12345678) and you thereby lcommitted an offence contrary to Section 20 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007,” one of the counts read.
Then there was the usual back-and-forth fight between the prosecution and defence counsels concerning specific conditions.
After listening to both parties, Justice Owoeye admitted Uzondu to stringent bail conditions.
He was to pay ₦5 million and provide two sureties of like sum. The sureties must also owe landed properties in Lagos and those properties must be verified by the court. Also the sureties are to swear to an affidavit of means.
Despite all these, the judge ruled that Uzondu be remanded in Ikoyi correctional center until the date for the trial.
