“God of Elijah, come o,” reactions as gunmen kidnap Catholic Priest

Gunmen kidnapped the Parish Priest on his way home after official assignment.

The incident which happened yesterday night has already sparked mixed reactions, with some netizens shading the church on the ground that a priest should be spiritually able enough not to fall victim as the “canal men.”

The statement released by the Chancellor/Secretary of Okigwe Diocese, Very Rev. Fr. Princewill Iwuanyanwu, disclosed that Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Azubuike was kidnapped last night.

Rev. Azubuike is the parish Priest of St. Theresa’s Catholic Parish at Obollo community, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

“I am directed to inform you that one of our priests, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Azubuike, was kidnapped this evening, Tuesday, 5 November 2024, at about 6 pm.

“Rev. Fr. Azubuike, who was ordained on 27 September 2014, is the parish priest of St. Theresa’s Catholic Parish, Obollo, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, Imo State,” the statement read.

In the statement, Catholic was seeking help from the public – in term of prayers.

“We request your fervent prayers that he may return to us safe and sound, trusting in your goodwill and solidarity,” the statement continued.

The spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, has reacted, said the police was on the matter.
