Messi in shame as Atlanta United kicks out Inter Miami in MLS Cup

Lionel Messi's status, GOAT, questioned after Inter Miami vs Atlanta United MLS Cup playoff final

Lionel Messi’s status probably shifted with the humiliating defeat Atlanta United delivered on him and his team, Inter Miami.

The 3-2 win against Inter Maimi in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs is not expected at all. Messi’s teammates previously won Game 1 but lost Game 2.

Inter began early lead through goal by midfielder Matías Rojas at half time. But then, the team could only be playing defense and trying to equalize. Messi managed to secure equalizer at 65th minute.

Atlanta’s striker Jamal Thiaré and midfielder had braced up the Game 3, while midfielder Bartosz Slisz’s 76th-minute winner sealed Inter Miami’s fate as the loser and sent them packing.

Inter Miami really tried but all their efforts to bring the game to penalty-kick shootout failed. Goalkeeper Brad Guzan stopped a stalemate multiple times, making eight beautiful saves.

Atlanta ranked 9th on the Eastern Conference, finishing 34 points, far below Inter Miami’s 74 points.

Had Messi & Co. succeeded last night, it would have set record as the eighth-ever team to win a Supporters’ Shield-MLS Cup double.
