Politics is a dirty thing, especially in Lagos. Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, is presently stranded. Without warning, all the escorts assigned to her were withdrawn, leaving her “vulnerable for attacks”.
The security agents guarding the Assembly building were also withdrawn. No one knew where the order came from, no does anyone know the purpose of the abrupt action.
Disclosing the troubling situation in a statement, the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Information, Mr. Victor Ganzallo, expressed concern over the lawmaker’s safety.
“As we speak, all security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own,” he stated.
The reason for the withdrawal is yet unclear, but it appears an order had come from “above.”
Lagos State Police Command has not commented on the development. And neither the state government itself. Meranda will have to sort herself out by herself.
Little on Mojisola Meranda Biography
Following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa, Mojisola Meranda won vote of confidence from her colleagues at the Lagos State House of Assembly. She was sworn in on January 13.
Born in 1980, she joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013, and won a seat in the State Assembly to represent Apapa 1 constituency in 2015.
It is not certain, but she could be the youngest woman to ever occupy the hot seat of Lagos Assembly at 44.
