I’ve taken my seat as Lagos Assembly Speaker, Obasa declares

Mudashiru Obasa declares that he have taken his seat as Speaker of Lagos Assembly as h returns to the office today

Mudashiru Obasa is back again as the Lagos Assembly Speaker, he declared today.

The Mail reported that the substantive Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, was suddenly stripped of her security details. Hours after she announced she was “vulnerable to attacks”, Obasa stormed the Assembly complex with heavily armed men.

“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” he declared.

While he was away in the United States, Obasa’s colleagues in Lagos State House of Assembly had him removed as the Speaker on January 13. They cited misappropriation as the reason for his removal, and then install his deputy, Mojisola Meranda as substantive Speaker.

But Obasa rejected to be a floor member, saying that his impeachment didn’t follow due process.

Before long, the development turned sore. Obasa, with his supporters, took to the streets. Problems came in quick succession, gradually snowballing a major crisis before President Bola Tinubu intervened.
