A somewhat obscure man, named Obi Ikechukwu Marcel, is now the talk of the town in Nigeria. Why?
Obi Ikechukwu has suddenly become a household name after former presidential aide, Ahmad Bashir, called him out on X (formally known as Twitter).
“I initially didn’t want to post this transaction receipt of an erroneous transfer I made to one Obi Ikechukwu Marcel in December 2024,” Ahmad said, detailing the pains he had passed through already in a bid to recover his ₦1.5 million.
According to him, his Bank (Providus Bank) had contacted Obi’s bank (Access Bank) at the former aide’s request. Obi Ikechukwu also confirmed that he received the money but had refused to cooperate in refunding it.
Both banks told Ahmad there was nothing further they could do after Access had flagged Obi’s account.
They directed him to use the other option, which is to get court order. However, court was demanding a whooping 20% percent of the ₦1.5 million in upfront payment as a charge before it could act on Ahmad’s behalf.
Frustrated, former president Muhammadu Buhari’s aide chose the weapon of social media.
However, social media didn’t help him. Instead, Ahmad has had every negative words thrown at him. Netizens called him “anti-Igbo”, “tribal idiot”, “bigot” and even other worst labels.
Yesterday, he announced that he had paid the 20% for court to help him recover the money.
“The way some of you twisted my post forced me to reluctantly agree to pay the 20% for the court order just to get my money back.
“Shielding crimes and criminals simply because they share the same name or ethnicity as you is not a honorable thing to do,” Ahmad lashed out to social media users with Igbo name.
It is not yet clear if the recipient would now turn in or remain at large until he was captured.
