Punch reports that PDP would be writing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) today to demand fresh election to replace the 27 pro-Wike House of Assembly members who defected to All Progressives Congress (APC).

During the 2023 governorship election in Rivers State, Wike had anointed his then Accountant General, Siminalayi Fubara, and singlehandedly made him governor amidst agitation from all major PDP players in the State who opposed the choice for the reason that Fubara was not a politician.

Wike succeeded, but few months later fell apart with his successor when Speaker of this State Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, led majority of the House to impeach Fubara.

They failed in the attempt, but a total of 27 Assembly members who were elected on PDP platform defected to APC with clear intention to make Rivers ungovernable for Fubara.

Reacting to the defection of the lawmakers, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said on Monday that party had no choice but to fight back.

However, it remains to be seen this time how PDP would tackle Nyesom Wike who successfully defied the party in many instances and got away with it.
