Enugu SSG, Prof. Onyia commends young environmentalists (Photos)

At the end of a remarkable initiative campaign to promote environmental consciousness, tree planting in various selected secondary schools in Enugu State and also road side in Enugu metropolis by young minds, coached by Prof. Chukwumerije Okereke of the Center for Climate Change and Development, participants of the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) Awardee, the event came to a ceremony end with a courtesy visit to the Enugu State government by the participants.

Receiving the participants, the secretary to the state government Prof Chidiebere onyia use the opportunity to appreciate Prof Chukwumeriji Okereke for his passion and commitment towards climate change issues and also highlight the readiness of the state government to partnership with the group and steps already taken by the Enugu State government towards a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable environment.

Prof Chidiebere onyia also highlight His Excellency Dr Peter Mbah vision for a better Enugu State and his plans to contribute to a greener and healthier environment for generations to come in Enugu State.

Participants took turn to address the floor on what they learn throughout the program and importance of climate change awareness, not only in the urban area, but also rural.

The impact of this educational program is expected to be far-reaching, as participants are now equipped with both the knowledge and practical skills to become environmental stewards in their communities.

The event which officially kickoff on the 15th of August 2023 with the training of 31 awardee participant out of over 400 applicants, with over 300 trees carefully planted in selected schools and streets in Enugu State metropolis, each representing a beacon of hope for a cleaner and more sustainable Enugu State.

Government official present were, Honourable Commissioner for Environment of Enugu State, Prof. Sam Ugwu who has been a longstanding advocate for sustainable development in the region and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on legal matter Barr. Juliet Okonkwo

The participants where led to the courtesy visit under the expert coordination of Hon. Basil Ojengwa, Mr. Elochukwu Anieze, and Mrs Ogechi Nwonye Bernard of EcoCyclers a was recycling company.
