Naira Marley, Sam Larry didn’t kill Mohbad, Court rules finally

Naira Marley, Sam Larry absolved finally as court rules they didn't kill Mohbad. More news about Mohbad peace trending

Is it a story of what money can do? Or are they really not guilty? These are some of the top questions on the minds of many Nigerians as court absolved Naira Marley, Sam Larry and Primeboy of having hands in Mohbad’s dead.

Background

On September 12, 2024, a star Afrobeat singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (popularly known as Mohbad) died under mysterious circumstances.

Nigerians got too emotional, and took to the streets in protests that shook Lagos and nearly broke the internet in pieces. So many video clips surfaced, with millions of Nigerians pointing accusing fingers to Mohbad’s key associates.

Popular street singer, Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, was looked at as one of the prime suspects. Music promoter Samson Balogun Eletu (a.k.a Sam Larry) and Owodunni Ibrahim (a.k.a Primeboy) also faced backlashes from angry netizens.

Days later, National Assembly got and involved, ordering that Mohbad’s remains – hurriedly buried – be exhumed for autopsy.

But even that had no impact: Mohbad, sadly, died in vain. Private investigator after another refused to touch his case because “powerful individuals” in the country have something to hide. All the protests and rantings on the internet also yield no fruit.

Apart from these, Mohbad’s remains are still in the morgue. And his wife, till today, still refused to take Mohbad’s son for DNA tests, fuelling speculation that the late singer wasn’t the biological father of the child.

Mohbad peace: How court ruling “vindicates” Naira Marley

Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje of the Magistrate Court, Sabo in Yaba, Lagos, ruled that Naira Marley, Sam Larry and Primeboy have no hands in Mohbad’s death.

Kubenje said his ruling was based on the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution’s advice. The Magistrate also acquitted Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde. So the four walked home, now free.

However, the court ruled that only two individuals are to be held and prosecuted for their involvement in the Mohbad’s death. Interestingly, the two are “little” persons with no influence.

They are Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who allegedly treated Mohbad before he died, and Ayobami Sadiq, one of his friend.
