Nigerians are proud of Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles head coach. Yesterday’s 2-0 win against Rwanda was a life-saver for Nigeria’s side which have moved to fourth position in Group C.

It also meant the Super Eagles now has six points in five games. The change in circumstances drastically utter the previous near-hopelessness.

The game was equally the first under Eric Chelle. And it only served to proved the new coach’s ability.

Speaking after the match, Chelle spoke on the secrets regarding the seemingly easy victory over Rwanda’s Amavubi.

According to him, everything boiled down to the selection and the formation he used.

“It is my responsibility to set up the system. We tried two different systems in the team. We need to improve,” Chelle said.

He appeared to be, in fact, addressing the concern of keeping out some key Super Eagles players off the pitch. For example, Victor Boniface, Umar Sadiq, and Raphael Onyedika didn’t play.

“We have great players. Today, the team performed well. My job is to make the decisions, decide on the system, and select the right personnel,” he added.

Chelle appeared to used variation of 4-2-4 formation, left the midfield for Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi. He overwhelmed the Rwanda’s side with heavy attacking start, with Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon all pressing in the attack.

It worked out well. Victor Osimhen, the Galatasaray goal lord, scored the two goals. Super Eagles will return home to face Warriors on Tuesday at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
