Akwa Ibom in crisis as fuel sells at ₦2,500 per liter

There is panic nationwide as fuel sells at ₦2,500 per liter in Akwa Ibom, people fear the new dimension

The nationwide fuel crisis has assumed an entirely different dimension in Akwa Ibom today.

All of a sudden fuel jumped to ₦2,500 per liter.

Earlier today, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) directed its members nationwide to shut down their filling stations.

The directive followed alleged seizure of fuel takers belonging to IPMAN members by Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe.

Responding to the crisis, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, set immediate 13-member Petroleum Products Monitoring Committee (PPMC) to address the challenge.

The committee was chaired by former lawmaker Godwin Ekpo.

Labour announces strike in Akwa Ibom

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has already stepped in, declared strike as they cited the consequences of the hike on impoverished workers in the state.

President Bola Tinubu’s policies of floating naira and removal of fuel subsidy have made life touch for ordinary Nigerians since May 2023.
