In his New Year address yesterday, the Labour Party governor made number of pronouncements, all of which was geared towards making his people happier.
Apart from abolishing all forms of payment in both public primary and secondary schools, Otti also declared all children within school age are on full scholarship. No more school fees.
To enable this to work, the state government has introduced an imprest account system, account from which money would be drawn for day-to-day operations of the schools.
“We have stopped all forms of payments in the primary and secondary schools, not even PTA levies should be charged any parent or guardian in any public school in the state,” Alex Otti said. Also, he added that it has become illegal for any child within school age to be found outside classrooms during school hours any day.
All public schools administrators and teachers in the state have be warned never to extort money neither from the pupils nor the students as the state government would be brutal in enforcing its education policies.
“We shall be strict with enforcement, and it will be a grievous mistake to test our will,” he said.
His New Year package also include the welfare of the retirees whom he said would be well taken care during his administration.
