How Enugu LG deputy chair died mysteriously in office

It was indeed a sad moment for the people of Enugu State. The burial of late Surv. Ifeanyi Nwaru was really moving.

Barely two months after he was elected the deputy chairman of Aninri local government area, he died under “mysterious circumstances.”

“He just started vomiting blood, and before we knew what was going on he passed on,” a source from Amorji Nenwe said, preferring anonymity. He was believed to not have died a “natural death,” another source added.

Notable figures across the state gathered yesterday to lay Nwaru to rest at his hometown, Amorji Nenwe. Those who attended the burial ceremony include the state Governor Peter Mbah, who was represented by Barr Ernest Nweze, the Zonal chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku, the chairman of Aninri local government area.

Others are former military Governor of Gombe State, Capt. Orji; Hon Sidney Okechukwu, Chairman of Enugu State chapter of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON); Hon. Lloyd Ekweremadu, Commissioner for Youths and Sports; Hon Magnus Edeh, member representing Aninri in the State Assembly.

All the former chairmen of Aninri local government area, with their deputies were also present.

Late Surv. Ifeanyi Nwaru is now the first deputy chairman of the council area to die in office.

“And we pray for such an ugly thing to seize. God help us; it was indeed a sad thing. I feel deeply touched. May his gentle soul rest in peace,” Prince Nwanjoku said in a phone chat.

Before his emergence as the deputy chairman, Surv. Nwaru was a private person, having neither run for an election nor occupy any public office in the past.

He was said to have shown much interest in winning the governor’s endorsement to be the chairman. Although there exist in some quarters gossips that his “death is man-made,” those fingers are pointing towards Nwaru’s community.
