APC seducing voters with rice, cassava ahead of Ondo election – Yiaga Africa

Even though in power, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is afraid to face PDP and 15 other political parties in the coming ondo election, Yiaga Africa reported.

Ondo state governorship election will take place on November 16, 2024.

The pro-democracy NGO made the revelation in a report released yesterday after the participating 17 parties signed peace accord.

According to the report, the ruling APC lead others in frantic effort to sway the polls with incentives.

The situation is worst in Akure South, Ese-Odo, Ifedore, Irele, Ondo East, Ose, and Owo local government areas where politicians give out rice, cassava, fertilizer and other items to voters.

Political violence to follow Ondo election, Yiaga Africa warns

Apart from this, Yiaga Africa reported, there is to be expected political violence. The organization called on political actors to weigh in while its still time.

“As the election approaches, tensions between political parties are escalating, with different sides trading accusations and warnings.

“The situation underscores the need for vigilance and peaceful conduct from all stakeholders involved. Security agencies should take proactive measures to mitigate these risks.

“Ensuring the safety of voters, election officials, and all other participants is paramount to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.

“Preventive measures must be prioritized to avert violence and ensure a peaceful election,” Yiaga Africa said.

The incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is seeking reelection under APC but is facing daunting challenges before Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples’ Democratic Party.

The election is basically between the two major candidates, but there are 15 other parties which are basically seen as spoilers in the race.
