Breaking: Senate approves Kekere-Ekun as new CJN

• Senate confirmed Kekere-Ekun, second female CJN in Nigeria
• A day after Nnamdi Kanu attacked the integrity of Nigeria judicial, new CJN was confirmed
• Tinubu cited “highest consideration and personal regards” as he asked the Senate to hasten Kudirat Kekere-Ekun’s confirmation

The Senate has just approved the appointment of Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

President Bola Tinubu had written to President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio and requested that the red chamber hastened Kekere-Ekun’s confirmation.

She has been serving as CJN on acting capacity since August after Justice Olukayode Ariwoola retired.

With this appointment, Kekere-Ekun would go down in history as the 23rd Chief Justice of the country, and the second female CJN in Nigeria.
