Court humiliates Ohanaeze’s Igboayaka, treats him like shit

Magistrate court in Ebonyi treats Ohanaeze's Igboayaka like peace of shit, denies him bail as Ohanaeze Youth council foams

Anyone who looks at how Igboayaka was treated today would understand something. The hands which are holding the Ohanaeze Youth Leader are stronger.

An Ebonyi Magistrate’s court sitting in Abakaliki today dismissed Igboayaka’s bail application with much scorn.

Recall that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Ebonyi Police Command, arrested the youth leader in a manner that was akin to kidnapping on February 8. After some call for his whereabout intensified, the command confirmed that he was with them. Even at that, he was detained for days before being arraigned on February 12.

Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the president of Ohanaeze Youth Council, is facing alleged trial in Ebonyi State. He was accused of committing felony and causing extreme fear to the people of Amegu Nkalagha community in Ishielu council area in the state.

Meanwhile, Ohanaeze Youth Council has continued to regard its president’s detention as “pure persecution”.

At the court today, the activist’s counsel made quite a good case for his bail.

“This is my first time appearing before this honourable court and this application for bail bears a mark of the Supreme Court, which has made a clear position on this. I strongly believe that this court has jurisdiction to allow bail even without application,” the defence counsel, Obinna Ekeke submitted.

But Magistrate Sandra Ifeanyi-Oyibe saw it differently, and rejected the application on the basis that it was the first time Igboayaka is appearing before the Court.

“This is the first time this matter is coming up after the remand; you also know that you can make this application at the High Court , so if by the next adjournment and the law says 14 days, you can apply for bail especially if it’s not a capital offence,” Ms Ifeanyi-Oyibe said and adjourned the matter until March 12.

Needless to say, the prosecution counsel didn’t even bother to be present in the Court.
