Crisis as Governor Soludo demolishes NTA office at Onitsha

More bad news trails Governor Soludo in election year. Agents from the Anambra State Physical Planning Board (ANSPPB), have caused “catastrophic” damages in NTA office at Nkisi Phase 1 Onitsha.

Various video clips of the incidence, which took place over the weekend, has been trending. ANSPPB agents, with men of the State’s Joint Taskforce, reportedly forced their way into NTA premise, carrying with them bulldozers.

According Franklin Onyekachi, NTA news correspondent, who was eyewitness, the “invaders” were about 50 in number.

He said the news agency was not giving any prior notice or warning regarding the demolition exercise they came to carry out. And effort to stop them failed as the government officials descended on the newsmen who tried to capture the incidence on cameras.

“The news crew who made efforts to record the invasion and amidst grave intimidation were beaten up with the cameras damaged, while their phones were made away with,” Onyekachi recounted.

The General Manager of the Station, Violet Nnadi, was also beaten; her blouse was torn and her phone seized.

She said: “I said they cannot demolish anything without proper information. They didn’t give us any notice. Just because they are dragging this land, all they want is to drag this land.

“They want to take NTA’s land. And I tried to stop them. I said they didn’t give me any pre-notice. And they tore my clothes and beat me up.

Anambra State gubernatorial election will hold later in the year. Governor Charles Soludo is expected to seek reelection although the All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to wrestle power from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) which has led the state since 2003.

He has been leading headlines recently following his renewed effort to curb insecurity which has plagued the state since his assumption into office.
