“Do you want Tinubu dead?” Again, presidency tackles Peter Obi
Again, the presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Mr Peter Obi, has clashed with the presidency over the plan to add new costly presidential jets in President Bola Tinubu’s air fleet.
Obi had attacked this plan, insisting that the presidency should not be thinking of luxury for itself amid the crippling economic hardship in the land.
But the presidency was swift in replying Peter Obi. The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, replied the former Governor of Anambra State in his chat with Punch.
“Does Peter Obi want the President dead? Is that his wish? Does he want him to continue moving around in a rickety plane and die like the VP of Malawi and Iran President? Let him tell us. This is a basic thing any sane government will do. You can’t toy with your President’s welfare,” Onanuga said.
According to him, it was the National Assembly which recommend that the new plane be acquired for the president.
The presidential jet presently is use developed major fault in Saudi Arabia last time Tinubu traveled; it was during former president Obasanjo’s administration that the jet was acquired, Onanuga continued, adding that “Sometimes, Peter Obi opened his mouth to make unnecessary statements.”
Few months after some plain in presidential air fleet were put for sale, the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence called on Federal Government to buy new jet for President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
Reacting on his X handle on Monday, Peter Obi said that was unacceptable. A responsible government should be ashamed that it is it’s policies that have plunged millions of Nigerians deep into poverty, Obi said.
“This demonstrates extreme insensitivity to citizens’ struggles. With rising insecurity, poverty, hunger, and homelessness, this decision highlights the disconnect that is apparent between the government and the people.

“It is unacceptable as the situation in the country today more than ever demands a more compassionate use of resources, prioritising citizens’ welfare,” he said.
