
Leader of Pan Niger Delta Forum, Edwin Clark, is dead. Prof. C. C. Clark, disclosed this on behalf of the family earlier today.
“The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON on Monday, 17th February 2025,” Prof. C. C. Clark said in a statement. He added that the family would appreciate prayers from the family even as he promised to update public of details.
Clark’s death is coming few days after a popular Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, also passed on. Adebanjo died 96 years and Clark was 97.
Who was Edwin Clark?
His was a big name in Nigerian politics – he has truly left his mark as an administrator, nationalist and freedom fighter.
A lawyer by trade, Edwin Clark was appointed Commissioner for Education in the Mid-Western Region from 1968 to 1971. Later, he also served as Commissioner for Finance and Establishment in the defunct Bendel State between 1972 and 1975.
Clark was later to make it to the federal level where he served as Commissioner for Information in 1975. As democracy returned in 1979 he won senatorial seat and served between 1979 and 1981.
Generally, he was seen as the loudest voice in Niger Delta. In the political crisis that has rocked Rivers State, Clark didn’t hide it that Nyesom Wike is at fault.
And he had been making efforts to reconcile Wike and Governor Simi Fubara.
