One Barrister Ifeanyichukwu Okonkwo is fighting to save himself from prison. The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has arraigned him before Justice E.N Oluedo of Enugu State High Court.
In a statement on its official X handle today, EFCC said the lawyer has stolen ₦41 million “by conversions”.
“The Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, has arraigned one Barrister Ifeanyichukwu Okonkwo before Justice E. N. Oluedo of the Enugu State High Court, sitting in Independence Layout, Enugu for fraud,” the anti-graft agency began.
Quoting sections of the Criminal Code where the offences contradicted, the prosecution counsel, Ajobiewe Rotimi Enitan, asked the court to remand the lawyer pending trial date.
However, Barr. Okonkwo who represented himself, pleaded not guilty. Speaking further, he applied that the earlier bail Justice H. O. Eya of the same court granted him be sustained. And Justice Oluedo heard him, adjourning the matter to May 13, 14 and 15, 2025.
EFCC disclosed that Barrister Okonkwo was first arraigned before Justice Eya of the same court on June 23, 2023. Even then he pleaded “not guilty,” applied for a bail and finally walked home free.
