Since it began in 2012 England had reached the final on five different occasions but never won the title. The two countries had clashed last week in the round-robin stage of the tournament in a 61-59 win for South Africa.
Roses goal defence Funmi Fadoju was named the man of the match for deflecting six times, intercepting six times and making six gains.
In the third quarter the Proteas were reduced to only six players because of suspension, yet they pressed hard on England. By the time it was 15 minutes to final, South Africa was only three points behind England.
Despite the spirited fightback, the Roses’ controlled play saw them retain their hold and finished first.
