Enugu LG Polls: Magnus Edeh scheduled to storm PDP meeting amid brewing crisis

Member representing Aninri constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly, Engr. Magnus Edeh, will be arriving Ndeabor, the headquarters of his local government area for the monthly meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This was disclosed in a memo from his media office on Saturday.

“Today, 13 July, 2024, Hon. Engr. (Dr) Magnus Edeh will storm the headquarters (Ndeabor) in the commando’s style for monthly meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“He will be joined by high-profile stakeholders from the zone,” the memo read in part.

The Mail has reported that the Supreme Court landmark judgement has had immediate ripples in local communities, with political consciousness in the grassroots ripping overnight.

This is made even worst in Enugu State where the State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has fixed October 5 for council elections after the tenure of the previous administration elapsed some two months ago.

With the Supreme Court drastically reducing influence of State Governors, a lot has happened.

Last week, Mr. Victor Okoro, PDP chairman in Aninri was “dislodged”. His deputy will preside today in the meeting Mr. Okoro is most unlikely to attend, according a source familiar with the matter.

“Governor Peter Mbah will like PDP to be strong again. Even with his influence over local governments reduced, he will work with trusted stakeholders in each zone to achieve stronger PDP,” the source continued.

Engr. Edeh is at the top of Mbah’s trusted allies in Aninri, another source said in anonymity due to not being authorized to share comments on the matter.

Recall that Governor Peter Mbah and Magnus Edeh nearly lost the March 18 elections due to both sabotage with PDP and the unexpected tsunami from Labour Party. Both men survived that and also survive the even more aggressive post-election battles.

The lawmaker has since steadied the faltering party in his zone, having successfully reconciled “fans” of Senator Ike Ekweremadu with the “moving train”.
