A 20-year-old thief, 8 others arrested in Enugu

A 20-year-old thief and 8 others were arrested in Enugu as police intensify unprecedented crackdown on criminals across the state

Governor Peter Mbah has ordered total crackdown on criminals in Enugu State. And the police are carrying out the directives without pity.

The Public Relations Officer of Enugu State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Daniel Ndukwe, said nine suspected thieves were arrested in matter of days.

They major in stealing street lights, generators and Keke Napep, The Nation reported.

In the morning of February 17, 2025, the police operatives attached to Unity Division arrested one Mr Onyebuchi Ukwu; he is 20. He was carrying a local pistol with one cartridge, Ndukwe narrated how the suspects came to be in police net.

“Police operatives of New Haven Division also arrested Samuel Kalu, for allegedly stealing a Bajaj tricycle from where it was parked at Edenwu Street, New Haven,” the police spokesman continued, added how a 23-year-old Ibrahim Ayuba is also cooling his feet at the Correctional Custodial Centre for stealing Kemage generator worth over ₦700,000.

Also, on February 9, police officers Emene Division on Nkwubor/Adoration Road, Enugu intercepted Arinze Onyia who is 33. He stole a Bajaj Keke Napep and was on the run when he was arrested.

The New Haven Division also recorded same success, arresting one Samuel Kalu who stole a Bajaj Keke Napep from where it parked at Edenwu Street, New Haven.
