How police arrest policeman who…

Nigerian police are addicted to bribery. A retired police officer, Linus Monday, with ID card number 6257, has been arrested following intelligence that he has been conducting stop-and-search operation.

The incident started trending after whiteshark_blog, an Instagram handle, posted it. The post has since got a lot of buzz, with thousands of netizens sharing their displeasure over the “addicted bribery behaviour” from entire Nigerian police.

Although the place it happened wasn’t shared, Linus Monday was paraded in one of the police stations in the country.

The officer’s ugly story wasn’t a new one but it resurfaced after Kaduna State Police Command arrested a fake police officer, Rabiu Sani, in the state recently.

According to the Command’s Police Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, Sani has been impersonating the police for over 10 years before his arrest.

“The man has been parading himself as a policeman for over 10 years.

“He mostly operated around the court until he was caught following intelligence received, and a fake police ID card was recovered from him,” Hassan said in a statement, added that they’re working on arresting criminals like Sani.

During a parade at the Command’s headquarters, the suspect confessed to the crime. He told journalists that he never participated in patrol or field operations.

“I know impersonation is a crime. I need forgiveness even though I did it because I love the job. I only operated within court premises,” Sani pleaded.
