Breaking: Wike approves new minimum wage for FCT workers
Nyesom Wike has intervened in the lives of civil servants inside Federal Capital Territory as he approves new minimum wage.
All civil servants working in FCT would start receiving ₦70,000 minimum wage.
The development was disclosed in a statement by the Press Secretary to the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT, Anthony Odeh, who said Wike made the approval yesterday.
According to Punch, the former Rivers State governor hoped that implementing the ₦70,000 minimum wage would go along way in helping the suffering Abuja workers.
Meanwhile, the announcement is coming after the FCT Chapters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) threatened protests in the capital city on November 30.
As the Acting Head of Civil Service of FCT, Mrs Grace Adayilo, put it, Wike’s sudden decision to implement the minimum wage wasn’t because of the threats.
“This gesture will further spur the entire administration staff to support the minister in continuing to deliver on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Adayilo said.
