“Go to court,” Tinubu advises aggrieved candidates in Edo
As Edo State election continues to generate tension, President Bola Tinubu has given the aggrieved candidates his typical advice.
In a statement released this morning by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu asked them to “go to court.”

While this may be the correct advice, the president’s tone, however, reminded Nigerians of what he told his Labour Party presidential competitor, Peter Obi. After the outcomes of the 2023 presidential election, which many suspected to have been manipulated against Obi, the president told “the aggrieved candidates to go to court.”
Obi had gone through hell in navigating through the nation’s judicial system in order to “reclaim” his stolen mandate. But he failed.
It appears the same is going to repeat itself in Edo where the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, was declared winner yesterday by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“The President urges all those aggrieved by the election outcome to seek redress through the legal channels,” the statement read, while commending INEC for conducting “free and fair” elections.

“INEC has once again demonstrated that it is committed to organising free and fair election in our country,” Tinubu added.
