Governor of Abia State Alex Otti swears in the 17 newly elected council chairmen in the state

Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has sworn in the 17 newly elected council chairmen.

The ceremony took place yesterday in Umuahia, the state capital. Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won overwheming 15 local government areas while the Young Progressive Party (YPP) won 2 in the polls conducted on Saturday.

Urging them to put “Abia first,” the governor said the duty of council chairmen, among other things, was to solve the problems facing inner communities.

“As I had also said, your task is to solve the basic problems that have bedevilled our people in the various communities for ages.

“Access to water, basic health and education services, effective maintenance of Truck C roads and quick response to security threats in your local communities should rank very high in your order of priorities,” he began.

Without direct and positive impacts of theirs administrations on their various constituencies, then there is no leadership, Otti told them.

He pointed the need to prioritize youth bracket and to run a government with women inclusivity with measured efforts to better their lives.

“Our people should be able to see the impact of your leadership in the next six months through measurable improvements in the living conditions of the people, especially women, youths and the vulnerable in the various localities,” Otti added.
