Nobody can deny that there is no big problem in Lagos State right now. The heat at the State Assembly is much, now sifting
The crisis rocking Lagos House of Assembly has taken a new turn as pressure for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene increases. But can he intervene?
- Many officials in Tinubu’s govt are “Yahoo Boys” – Peter Obi
- Again, El-Rufai and Reno Omokri go for each other’s throats
A lot has happened already. After his colleagues voted and remove Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, a hell seemed to break loose. Mojisola Meranda is now the new Speaker.
Since Obasa’s removal, neither the godfather of Lagos State and President, Bola Tinubu, has spoken. As analysts put it, it was the same reasons as President Tinubu’s which are also behind Sanwo-Olu’s silence.
Many voices across the nation are condemning the heavy presence of security agents in the Assembly. Agents of Department of Security Services (DSS) have sealed Obasa’s office while well armed police officers and task force men occupied the assembly complex.
On his part, Obasa, who has been protesting his ordeal, took to the streets with hundreds of supporters.
Speaking on the Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, a respected chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Babatunde Bank-Anthony, called for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene.
“I expect the governor, as well, to say something to this. He is the number one man in Lagos State.
“He cannot ignore what happened yesterday because that is the parliament that he reports to; that is the parliament that makes the law for the state he is governing.
“The governor should speak up about this issue to the right quarters,” Bank-Anthony said, quickly shielding Tinubu.
“Let us leave this man [Tinubu] alone, he has a bigger headache,” the chieftain added.
Bola Tinubu firmly seized the control of Lagos State since 1999. After his two-term administration as the governor which elapsed in 2007, Tinubu has continued to dictate for the richest state in Nigeria.
Lagos is in his palms, and as his son, Seyi Tinubu, is jostling to be governor of the state in 2027, analysts are speculating that the present crisis may not be unconnected to the grand plan to make the president’s son’s installation very easy.
