Hunger Protests: “We can try minors under Nigerian law” – FG

Federal Government has finally responded to outcry, said it can try minors under Nigerian law even as President Bola Tinubu pardoned victims of EndBadGovernance hunger protests

Federal Government has finally responded to public outcry against the recent arraignment of minors who took part in #EndBadGovernance hunger protests.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), said no existing law in Nigeria that prohibits such trial.

He was speaking while commissioning a law firm in Abuja.

Fagbemi also addressed the the line of argument that those minors could have been transferred to Family court.

“The study of the law and the Constitution leaves you no other conclusion than that the Federal High Court has jurisdiction in matters bordering on treason and related issues,” he said.

It was only on the ground of compassion that President Bola Tinubu released the children, the Attorney-General insisted.

Fagbemi said: “The President was very compassionate…he said, despite all this, ‘I have children, grandchildren,’ and that motivated his passion to release them.
