President Bola Tinubu swears in Ibok-Ete Ibas as new Sole Administrator of Rivers State

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) can now go down to Rivers State to control the affairs of the oil-rich state.

Following his declaring state of emergency in Rivers State Tuesday night, President Bola Tinubu appointed Ibas as the Sole Administrator. An hour ago, the president sworn in Ibas.

Present at the swearing in ceremony at the State House, Abuja included Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi and many others.

It was not clear if the FCT Minister and former governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike, was at the ceremony.

Wike is believed to be working to deliver his state when campaign start for Tinubu’s second term agenda. He wanted to control the political structures in the state – the ambitious bid Fubara rejected.

No doubt, Wike has the blessings of the president. In his broadcast yesterday, the president blamed Governor Siminialayi Fubara, but didn’t mention any of Wike’s roles in the lingering crisis.

Now, it has happened. And its clear who the loser is – Fubara. Tinubu suspended him, his deputy and members of the state House of Assembly for the “first six months.”

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas would soon fly down to Rivers State to take over the mantle of leadership amidst heavy military presence.
