Taboo! Ex-Minister dragged to court for rape and adultery

Powerful politicians in Nigeria are using their influence to intimidate the poor on daily basis.

This appears to be the case with the former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki, who is also Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

He was dragged to Magistrate’s Court in Zone Two, Abuja on Thursday for allegedly deceiving a young girl into marriage.

Turaki is arraigned for “deceitfully inducing a belief of lawful marriage, adultery by a man, and criminal intimidation,” the court read the First Information Report (FIR) to him. But sitting boldly in the dock, the senior lawyer answered that he was not guilty of the charges.

According to the prosecution, a petition was brought to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja on August 9, 2024, accusing Turaki for various dirty dealings with a young girl, Ms Hadiza Musa Baffa.

Between December 2014 to August 2016, Turaki lodged the girl at Han’s Place Hotel, in obvious attempt to hid the affairs from the public, the report read.

Then, he relocated her to Ideal Home Holiday, Asokoro where they continued their illicit affairs. There, Ms Hadiza enjoyed the pleasure of the former Minister’s wealth for five years, between 2016 and 2021.

Again, Turaki allegedly relocated her mistress to a permanent residence at No. 12 Clement Akpagbo Close, Guzape, claiming she was legally married to her.

One of the results of their affairs was a baby girl. But Turaki seems tired of his mistress and was on the run, denying both the mother and the baby and threatening to harm them. She sued him.

The court fixed his trial on March 11, 2025 at the urging of the prosecuting counsel, prosecuting counsel, Chijioke Okorie.

However, the court granted Kabiru Turaki bail at the sum of ₦1 million, with two sureties of like sum.
