Miss Universe, Chidimma Adetshina, dares South Africa

Miss Universe Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina has arrived Mexico for global competition amid outcry from South Africans.

Recall that South Africa, through its Department of Home Affairs, is seeking to revoke Ms Adetshina and her mother’s identity, citing irregularities in their documents.

Days after, Lebogang Shovhote launched a petition on change.org, seeking to gather enough votes to disqualify Chidimma Adetshina from participating in Miss Universe pageant holding in Mexico on November.

The petition, which is targeting 1000 votes, has already garnered well over 900.

But Miss Universe Nigeria, defiant, has flown to Mexico.

“I didn’t steal anyone’s identity,” she has already said. “I worked hard to earn my title.”

Controversies

Chidimma Adetshina entered Miss South Africa 2024 but immediately faced what was generally regarded as xenophobic persecution.

After several bickerings she withdrew and accepted invitation to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria, winning the crown.

Her victory earned her automatic participation in Miss Universe in Mexico but, unrelenting, South Africa Government and South Africans continue to pursue Adetshina’s fall.

Governor Peter Mbah names Adetshina Enugu State Ambassador

Enugu State Government has named Chidimma Adetshina an Ambassador, celebrating her “grits” as model of how people of Enugu behaves.

“I appointed Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Onwe Adetshina, as the brand ambassador of Enugu State.

“Chidimma is an indigene of Amurri, Nkanu West LGA, who embodies the resilience and determination that define Ndi Enugu,” Governor Peter Mbah said in a statement early October.

She is 23 years old, born of Nigerian father and Mozambican mother.

Miss Universe Nigeria Organisers react

“We send our brightest wishes and unwavering support!

“May Nigeria’s vibrant spirit shine through you. Represent us with pride, strength, and grace. Bring home the crown,” the organisers shared.

Chidimma Adetshina shared on her Instagram where she posed in Mexican airport, clad in white suit and green organza while holding Nigerian flag.

Miss Universe 2024 will be held in the Arena CDMX in Mexico on November 16 when Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua would crown her successor.
