
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has ugly replies for MTN, Glo and Airtel. The union is responding to the arbitrary hike in the telecommunication giants’ tariffs which take effects today, February 13, 2023.
Rising from its Central Working Committee meeting in Lokoja, Kogi State, the labour movement said it has outlined number of measures to fight the firms. The first step was to immediately boycott using MTN, Glo and Airtel services.

Its members have been directed to shun using the services daily between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM until the end of February 2025.
“The CWC has directed that, beginning Thursday, February 13, 2025, Nigerian workers and other willing citizens shall boycott the services of MTN, AIRTEL, and GLO daily between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM until the end of February 2025,” the communique read.
The boycott starts today, and the union equally urged all interested Nigerians to join in the effort to pressure the telecommunication giants.
In a communique signed by NLC president, Joe Ajaero, and General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, the union stated that, if the companies fail to revert to its former tariffs by the end of February, its members would begin mass protests to pickets all MTN, Glo and Airtel’s offices nationwide on March 1.
It read: “If the telecommunications companies fail to revert to the old tariff by the end of February 2025, a total shutdown of their operations nationwide will commence from March 1, 2025.
Also calling on their civil society allies and critical stakeholders to help make the actions effective, the unionists added that it was also reviewing the ongoing tax reform bills.
