MTN has finally reacted to public outcry against its hike of data plan. The Nigeria’s telecom giant shocked the country when everyone wake up yesterday to see some crazy hike in its weekly 15GGB data plan.
Previously sold for ₦2,000, the plan has gone up and the new price is ₦6,000 overnight, a 200% increase.
It has since caused stir among ordinary Nigerians, with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) amplifying the voices of the crying masses.
The labour movement called on its members nationwide to boycott MTN services. If the telecom company did not revert to original price by the end of February, NLC said it would shutdown the network provider’s operations across the nation on March 1.
In a message shared on social media on today, MTN in an informal, conversational tone begged its customers to “forgive and forget.”
“To our 15G digital bundle lovers. You dey vex. We know. We know how upsetting it must have been to suddenly wake up to a 200% increase on your favourite digital bundle.
“We could share several reasons, and provide explanations, but omo, all that one na story. We don cast. We get it and admit it. Let’s just say na mistake,” the message read in part.
Telecommunication companies previously announced plan to hike prices of their services by 50%. But it is only MTN which has increased its price. Airtel and Glo are expected to follow suit in coming days.
