One Ayobami Oshoko, 45, has killed himself in Ogun State after he realized he couldn’t cope with the ongoing economic crisis in Nigeria.

Punch reported that the incident occurred at Mango, Oke-Ata area of Abeokuta around 6:00 am on September 30, 2024.

According to the story, a friend of the deceased had come to visit, asked to see him. But he stood stunned when he got inside, coming face-to-face with the lifeless body of Oshoko.

He raised alarm.

A bottle of insecticide sat besides Oshoko, and with it spread a note written in Yoruba language.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident said Oshoko wrote in the note that the reason for his decision was because of the hardship in the country.

“He left a note written in Yoruba language, explaining the reasons behind his decision. In the note, he expressed frustration with his life and stated that he felt he had no choice but to end it. A discreet investigation is currently underway,” the PPRO said.

The incident which occured on September 23 elicited barrage of mixed reactions among Nigerians, with much more number saying that Nigeria is not worth dying for.

“Ebonyi people, Ohaozara people, see where our brother ended. Pastor John Ogbonna. He is on mountain along Arab Road in Abuja, where he died since yesterday (September 22),” a voice which announced the death of the clergyman said in a viral video.
