What you need to know about Nigerian Tenancy Law as a tenant beats his landlord to a pulp in Abuja

Things are really hard in the country. It seems everyone is on the look out to vent their frustrations.

That’s how a fight broke out in Abuja recently, between a tenant and his landlord. Needless to say, the tenant had to beat the landlord to a pulp.

Musa Alhassan, the tenant who is a commercial driver, was said to have returned to find his room under another padlock from his landlord, Vanguard reported. Alhassan didn’t pay his rent. The incident happened in Pegi community, Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

It was at the night, when he had returned from work, that he met the situation. Angered, he walked straight to the corner his landlord, Samson Bako, lived. But he met Bako’s son instead.

“The tenant walked straight and attempted to slap the landlord’s son. In the process, the landlord came out,” Ishaku Ayuba, a resident in the area, told the press.

Then, there was a “serious quarrel” and Alhassan descended on the landlord and left him half-dead.

He owe almost a year-rent, Ayuba continued, and had refused to reply several reminders to pay from the landlord.

A member of vigilant group in the area, identified simply as Joshua, told Vanguard that they were alerted. Alhassan was arrested and has since been cooling his feet with the police.
