Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu appears before Justice Binta Nyako

Government is just too bigger, stronger than anyone. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is back again and standing before Justice Binta Nyako of Federal High Court Abuja.

Recall that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on September 24, 2024, said he had no confidence in the presiding Judge, Nyako Binta, and demanded that she handed off his case.

She agreed, handed over Kanu’s files to John Tsoho, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court. Then Kanu was abandoned in detention, with officials Department of Security Services (DSS) reportedly denying him basic needs.

Last week, Binta Nyako issued impromptu notice, mandating the IPOB leader to appear before court today, February 10, 2024.

She was back again to judge Nnamdi Kanu. According to her, Chief Judge John Tsoho rejected her recusal and returned the files to her.

Tsoho’s reason was that Nnamdi Kanu can only formerly apply for recusal, and not to simply make oral request like he did in the courtroom in September.

Meanwhile, the prosecution counsel Adegboyega Awomolo and Kanu’s lead counsel Alloy Ejimakor had continued to battle over whether Binta Nyako has any legal ground to continue the case.

Obviously, Amowolo won and today was picked as the date. Ejimakor’s appeal for Kanu’s case to be transferred to Southeast also failed and was not considered at all.

At the resumed case in Abuja, Justice Binta Nyako told the defence counsel that they still have the right to make former application for the recusal should that still want it.

It appears that Federal Government is interested in neither jailing him Kanu nor leaving, always using delay tactics to prolong the trial. There has not been any substantial progress on his behalf since Kanu was arrested and returned to Nigeria in 2021.
