Again, Nnamdi Kanu’s family lambasts S/East Governors

The family of Nnamdi Kanu has lambasted the five governors of South Eastern region.

Speaking in Umuahia yesterday during a memorial in honour of their late parents, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, made number of dirty insinuations about the reasons why his brother is still being held in detention. He spoke for the family. According to him, South East governors could be “complicit” in Nnamdi Kanu’s ordeal.

“South East Governors are not doing enough to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. It’s either they are complicit or something,” Prince Kanu said.

Their parents, HRM Eze Israel, and Ugoeze Sally Kanu, died and were buried on February 24, 2020. But the family is now linking their deaths to the ugly incident of September 14, 2017.

Troops of Nigerian Army invaded Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s home on the date and allegedly killed 28 people. The IPOB leader escaped and fled Nigeria for years until he was rearrested in Kenya in 2021.

In the words of the family, the parents died as a result of trauma caused by the military invasion.

For Nnamdi Kanu to be released, President has given conditions to the South East governors, Prince Emmanuel said without mentioning what those conditions were. He added that the leaders have not shown any genuine interest in trying to release his brother. Perhaps, the governors are benefiting from the unrest in South East, he also mused.

Nobody can point to the actual direction the continued ordeal of the Biafran separatist is going for now. Last week, the presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako of Federal High Court Abuja, adjourned Kanu’s trial indefinitely.
