The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, and family of late HRM Igwe Onyioha Nwanjoku celebrated Easter together.
Mbah welcomed royal family at his Owo residence yesterday, a family member posted.
Led by Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku, chairman of Aninri local government area, the Nwanjokus said the visit was not just for solidarity, but also for gratitude.
Recall that Governor Peter Mbah endorsed Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku for chairmanship last year against all odds.
It came as a surprise to almost all Aninri power brokers. Prince Ugochukwu might be one of them, but there were far more bigger shots who thought nothing could happen in the council without them. But the governor didn’t look their way – he simply made Prince Ugochukwu the chairman.
“I was in Owo yesterday with my family on the invitation of my principal, His Excellency, Dr Barr Peter Ndubisi Mbah, Governor Enugu State, to celebrate Easter with him,” Prince Nwanjoku himself said in another circular that was sighted by TheMail.
Today, Nwanjoku is one of the most powerful political Family in Enugu State with late Igwe Onyioha Nwanjoku as the patriarch. During 80’s he rose from obscurity, stood shoulder to shoulder with the educated and the wealthy, and finally made it to the apex political echelon in the state.
Former state chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nwanjoku was the Igwe of Ndumeze ancient kingdom; the chairman of Aninri Traditional Rulers Council; the most powerful traditional ruler in Aninri.
Before his death, he witnessed his son elected administrator of Aninri North Development Centre. He witnessed his son became the commissioner for Youths and Sports.
Aside his son, Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku, being the council chairman of Aninri today so many others in his lineage sit on vital social and political circles in the state.
