Obasa resumes as Lagos Assembly Speaker, holds plenary with 4 members

Its only if you don’t know Mudashiru Obasa that you joke with him. He has indeed returned to his position as the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly.

Obasa reinstated himself this afternoon following his intimidating return to the Assembly complex with armed men. Nobody could stop him as he declared to newsmen that he “remains the Speaker.

He proceeded to hold plenary in the chamber, with four Assembly members in attendance.

Speaking to the newsmen, the embattled Speaker said he was a democrat, but that doesn’t necessarily allows for his own rights to be trampled upon.

“I’ve never been removed. Impeachment or removal is democratic and constitutional, but in doing that, you must follow due process. I am not against that. If I do that, then I am not a democrat,” he said.

The Lagos Assembly voted to impeach Mudashiru Obasa as the Speaker on January 13 while he was away in the United States. They accused him of misappropriation, while installing his deputy, Mojisola Meranda as the substantive Speaker.

How Obasa returns as Speaker

But Obasa returned and all hell broke loose. The crisis came to head this morning when Meranda cried out that her escorts were abruptly withdrawn. There wasn’t even a single act of respect on how the carpet was pulled under her feet.

And that was Obasa calling the shots. President Bola Tinubu allegedly ordered Obasa’s reinstatement, and there was nothing anyone can do about it. Then around 2p.m he stormed the Assembly complex and sat on his seat.
