Kwara State High Court has concluded the trial of five “able-bodied” young men and sentenced them to death by hanging.
“The five of you will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. And may the Lord have mercy on your souls,” Justice Haleema Saliman of the Kwara State High Court said at the end of the trial.

They are the men behind the brutal Offa bank robbery in 2018.
Ranked among the most shocking robbery incident in Nigeria’s crime history, Offa bank robbery happened in a broad daylight and left 30 persons dead at the spot, including 9 police officers.
Investigation was launched and arrests made, then the trial began quickly.
However, there were several twists, including the death of prime suspect, Michael Adikwu, a police officer who died while in custody.
Their offenses were bordered on unlawful possession of firearm, homicide and armed robbery.
However, at a moment Justice Saliman went emotional, really sympathizing with the condemned young men.
“It is unfortunate that we are witnessing these five able-bodied men who had all the opportunities to better their lots by living decently,” She said.

Reacting to the judgement, the lead prosector, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) commended the trial judge, while also reminding the convicted that they still have the right to appeal the judgement.
