Ohanaeze makes serious allegations against Gov. Nwifuru

The fight to finally ruin Governor Francis Nwifuru is now real. Following the “kidnap” of its president, Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has made fresh accusations against him.

About seven armed men reportedly stormed OYC president’s Owerri residence on Saturday evening and took him away. The group broke the news of his “kidnap” and, by Sunday morning, it made headlines in major national and online media.

However, Ebonyi State Police Command stated yesterday that Igboayaka was in its custody. It was gathered that those who arrested to youths president did not make official report to Imo State Command.

Even as his whereabout was thus determined, it did not help to douse the tension. OYC accused Governor Nwifuru of colluding with killer Fulani herdsmen in Ebonyi State, of orchestrating Igboayaka’s arrest and of weaponizing the police to silence its voice.

But Jude Chikadibia Okpor, the Commissioner for Information in Ebonyi State, denied the governor’s involvement.

In a statement signed by OYC Publicity Secretary, Comrade Chinedu Ikem, the group is demanding for unconditional and immediate release of its president.

“OYC has condemned the alleged kidnapping of their president, which they claim was carried out by the government without the knowledge or involvement of the Imo State Police Command.

“The Ebonyi state government sponsored abduction of our leader is a slap on the face of Igbo youths and we call on the governor Nwifuru to as a matter of urgency release Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka and apologize to OYC and Igbo nation or resign,” the statement read in part.

OYC’s parent organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has not officially commented since the arrest.

There has been spate of killings in some part of Ebonyi State. This time it weren’t communal war or any kind of internal unrest. It was Fulani herdsmen.

Governor Nwifuru is viewed as showing little effort to contain the Fulani killers in the state.
