The man of God reportedly called popular gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu (stage name: Omije Ojumi) a prostitute. He circulated the defamatory comments in various social media platforms.

Appearing before Magistrate Dr Olusegun Ayilara, pastor Peter is facing three-count charge for the alleged offense he committed sometimes in April.

“You, Apostle Niyi Peter, male, in the month of April 2024, at about 12:00 pm at Oke-Odo Area, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did defame the character of one Bunmi Akinnaanu, a.k.a. Omije Ojumi, by posting her picture and tagging it ‘prostitute song’ on social media,” the charge sheet read.

The clergyman also sent threatening messages to the singer, implying that some issues must have arisen to warrant such escalation.

The alleged offenses contravene sections 373, 88, and 249(D) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

But Peter pleaded not guilty. His counsel, Mr Okobe Najite, prayed the court to grant him bail.

The case was adjourned until October 22, 2024 after Magistrate Ayilara granted the N1 million bail.
