
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has reacted at the arrest of two suspects who murdered one Mr Ejike Nnaji on December 14, 2024.
Late Nnaji, a native of Oruku community in Nkanu East local government area, was ambushed and shot dead by the two. They collected his phone and his motorcycle before dumping his corpse inside well in an abandoned compound in the neighbourhood.
The following day the Caretaker Committee of Oruku Community reported the killing at Idodo Police Station. Nnaji’s decomposing remains were recovered and the case transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Enugu Police Command.
Then the manhunt began. Before long the suspects – Donatus Ani (aka Eneniyi) and Chidiebere Ani (aka Mpempe) – were nabbed at their residence in Akpuoga.
They have confessed to the crime and named other members of the gang who are now at large; Mpempe also added that the group has four AK-47 riffles.
Other members of the gang include Ejike Mba (aka Terrorist), who is their leader and sponsor; Chukwuebuka Ogbo, Okechukwu Nwatu (aka Osinaikuku), Aloysius Nnaona, Onyeka Ugwu (aka Dakpada), and Ifeanyi Charles Okenwa (aka Nwandumma).
One Okwudiri Ani keeps the guns for the gang. He is from Umuode community. As the police tried to arrest him he fled.
Meanwhile, the two suspects have been arraigned on four-count charges at Enugu North Magistrate Court after which they were dumped at Enugu Correctional Center.
Governor Peter Mbah has reiterated his administration’s resolve to stamp out insecurity in the state. Its the businessman-cum governor’s idea that he would realize his ambitious economic goals for the state only on a space of adequate security.
