• More Updates on Rivers state of emergency
The ripples that followed the state of emergency proclamation in Rivers State is not dying down soon. Presently, Senate President Godswill Akpabio is kicking to clean his name in yet another scandal.
He spoke for the first time on the rumour that he helped induced fellow senators to ratify President Bola Tinubu’s emergency rule in Rivers.
Akpabio reportedly disbursed $5,000 to senators at his Maitama residence on Tuesday. On Wednesday he added another $10,000 all in his bid to get the lawmakers to approve Tinubu’s proclamation.
However, Akpabio dismissed the allegation as mere rumour from his critics. Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media, Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President said be only called fellow lawmakers for a breakfast.
“I am aware and it is true that since Senator Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate assumed that position he has been breaking fast.
“He did it last year, he did it this year, so why is it turning it into a rumour,” Eyiboh said.
Describing it as a campaign of malice, Eyiboh added that his principal has no reason to disburse $15,000 to senators.
The Mail reported that both the House of Representatives and the Senate okayed emergency rule in Rivers State.
