• More news on supreme court rivers state
Rivers State is certainly going to catch fire in the coming days. The Supreme Court has just upheld the earlier ruling that Rivers would no longer access its monthly allocations.
Also, the apex court declared null and void the just concluded council elections in the state.
And it doesn’t stop here. Representing the five-member panel today, Justice Emmanuel Akomaye also dismissed counter-appeals Governor Siminalayi Fubara filed to counter Wike’s onslaughts.
In other words, the governor is tied hands and legs. He must comply with various court rulings he was accused of ignoring, the court said.
Fubara had been seeking for court to remove the 28 pro-Wike lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly who announced their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2024. The Assembly members had since boycotted plenaries, forcing Fubara to present the 2024 budget to only four members who are loyal to him.
But the Supreme Court criticized the governor, describing his actions as an authoritarian attempt to hamper the functions of the Assembly. By virtue of those actions, the governor also cut off 28 constituencies, Justice Akomaye-led panel said. It ordered the 28 lawmakers to resume sitting with immediate effect, and Fubara must reintroduce the 2024 budget.
Supreme Court Rivers State: Wike wins
In fact, all the things the Supreme Court said today were exactly the way Nyesom Wike wanted them. He has once again trounced his erstwhile godson. The ruling also means he is poised to ruin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2027.
While Wike and his loyal lawmakers, the newly-elected council chairmen and the Rivers people and, of course, the PDP mourn because because of the ruling, Wike is already throwing a party as seen in viral video.
