What police say about missing Ohanaeze Youth president

Reasons behind the kidnap of Igboayaka O. Igboayaka are out.

The Mail recalls that Igboayaka, president of Ohanaeze Youth Counci, was kidnapped around 7p.m on Saturday in Owerri. According to sources, about seven unknown gunmen, all dressed in black, stormed his residence with sienna and Lexus SUV and whisked him away.

So far, prominent voices in Southeast, including president of the Igbo National Council (INC), Chilos Godsent, have been urging the police to find Igboayaka.

Reacting, police public relations officer (PPRO) of Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, said they have launched manhunt for the abductors.

“The Imo Police Command has initiated an investigation to determine the whereabouts of the OYC President, Comrade Igboayaka,” he said, clarifying that the Igbo leader was not arrested.

This is happening amidst ongoing crackdown on kidnappers and other criminal elements in Anambra State.

Governor Charles Soludo has launched unprecedented war on crime, significantly widening the meaning of crime in a way that is sending even native doctors packing out of the state.

  1. This abduction goes to show the porosity of our cities. Police drove all the way from Avakaliki to Owerri, to kidnap a citizen, without recourse to their colleagues in Imo state. Can you see why the police and their reputation has degenerated? Why some of them are involved in high way robberies and extortionate?
