“Why should I be afraid of EFCC?” Gov. Obaseki dares

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki said he has no need to be afraid of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), dares the anti-graft agency to try him

Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, said he has no skeleton in his cupboard and therefore is ready to meet the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

Obaseki stated this at the EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session in Abuja on Wednesday.

He was reacting to the arrest of 8 of his officials, including the Accountant General, who have been detained since last week by the anti-graft agency.

“I’m not afraid of the EFCC. Why should I be? What is important is focus. I came into office and ignored the noise, concentrating on what I felt was important, and today you can see the results,” Obaseki said.

He said he had nothing to hide, having served his state well for 8 years.

“If the EFCC calls on me, I will hand myself over; I have nothing to hide,” he added.

EFCC traditional comes after governors after their tenures, when they’re no longer covered by immunity.

Obaseki served his first tenure under All Progressives Congress (APC) and as the godson of his predecessor, former Governor Adams Oshiomohle.

But four years later, after Obaseki’s first tenure, the two men came to blow, with Oshiomohle making sure APC denied Obaseki the governorship ticket for reelection.

The governor switched to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and won – and APC and Oshiomohle lost.
