Again, Wike clashes with Gov. Mohammed as PDP crisis deepens

Nyesom Wike is always ready to fight. At the moment he is having it off with Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State whom he labelled a “greedy politician.”
He further slammed the northern leader, accusing him of prioritising his “selfish” interests over the wellbeing of their party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The two PDP stalwarts have been at each other’s throat for days, practically taking the fight personal and fighting dirty in the public.
This is happening ahead of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for February 29.
The tension reached new heights when Governor Mohammed referred to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as a “liability” to PDP and asked him to resign. Wike returned the fire immediately.
He accused Mohammed of clinging to his position as the PDP Governors Forum out of personal ambition.
Wike appears to keep some bitter grudges against his party since he lost at the primary election in 2022. He had successfully plotted the ultimate loss of the party in the general election, then proceeded to accept ministerial appointment from his party’s rival.
He has also caused severe damages to the party in his home state, Rivers where he is fighting to wrestle control of the political structures from Governor Simi Fubara.
Although he is gradually losing the battle against Fubara, the circumstances have already led to deep division in the party – in the state and at national level.
PDP reconciliation committee is most likely to achieve nothing and the NEC meeting may bear no fruit, especially as the party’s internal crisis keeps getting out of hand.
